Why Chiropractic Care Matters – Especially This October

While October is a time to celebrate the changing of the season in preparation for fall, it is also a time to celebrate chiropractic! October is National Chiropractic Health Month (NCHM) – led by the American Chiropractic Association – and is observed to help raise awareness of the importance of musculoskeletal health, the benefits of chiropractic care and its natural evidence-based, patient-centered, and non-drug approach to health and wellness (ACA).

Why Chiropractic Helps:
Many people tend to seek out chiropractors because they seemed to be heavily associated with low back pain, neck pain, tension headaches, joint pain, sciatic, and posture problems, but chiropractic helps with more than just those problems. Overall chiropractic spinal manipulation helps improve the function of the nervous system and musculoskeletal systems. When the spine and joints can move properly, the body is allowed to communicate more efficiently and effectively. Spinal adjustments also help to improve balance, coordination, flexibility, and even energy levels. This allows for the body to better regulate itself and move more freely while also promoting healing.

This often leads:

  • Reduction in pain
  • Better sleep quality
  • Improved physical performance
  • Enhanced recovery from daily wear and tear

A Step in The Right Direction: Chiropractic Care as Prevention

ACA’s theme for this year is “Get Started with Chiropractic”, and besides the obvious benefits of chiropractic care mentioned above, one of the great things about it is that you don’t have to wait until you have an injury or are in pain to start care. While it is very common to see a chiropractor when you are experiencing pain, it is important to note that this type of care can be used as a preventative measure. One should think of chiropractic care like a routine dental cleaning or an oil change for your car, it’s maintenance that keeps everything running smoothly. When addressing the minor misalignments early, you can prevent muscle tension, joint stiffness, and nerve irritation before they cause pain. Not only does consistent care help promote healthy spines, it also promotes and introduces other healthy ideas and lifestyle habits, which can lead to making better informed choices.

Some examples would be:

  • Set reminders to get up and stretch every 30 to 60 minutes to help promote lubrication.
  • Adjust your workstation for proper posture.
  • Sleep on supportive pillows and mattresses.

When these healthy habits like the ones mentioned above are combined with routine visits, your spine and joints get to stay mobile and resilient.

Whether you have never heard of chiropractic or have been dealing with discomfort or just want to stay ahead of it, getting started with chiropractic is a simple and great way to invest in your-long term health.  This October, celebrate National Chiropractic Health Month by taking the first step towards not only a healthier life, but an enjoyable one.
